A true labor of love; for my final Weaving 1 project, I created a mid-century inspired table linen collection. I started by exploring characteristics and motifs of mid century patterns and playing with how I could use color and shape to bring them into a more modern space. Once I had patterns I was happy with, I could map out my weaving plan. I began with 10/2 unmercerized cotton and wove yardage to create a panel of 3' by 15' fabric. From there I hemmed the fabric into 4 18x18 napkins, 4 18x14 placemats, and 1 6'x14" table runner. Next, I used MX dye to color the four napkins. I then transferred my table runner and placemat designs onto silk screens; and mixed pigments, base, and Permaset to make my own screen-printing ink. After screening and setting the designs, my table linen set was complete and ready for use.
